In fact, when one walks away from this book, a picture emerges that is quite fascinating.  Surely the symbolic meaning of “rain” in the Bible has been studied to death, from Swedenborg to C.T. Russell to a host of men and women in biblical studies.  And some have tried to fit their understandings within a larger framework, with little success.  Conis accomplishes this.

I recommend The Latter Rain to everyone with a desire to understand the Bible better and I look forward to thoroughly reading it to the end. It is going next to my bed with a highlighter.

Whether explaining how “rain” is used as a symbol in Deuteronomy or laying out the ways in which the Passover Feast foreshadowed the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Conis uses language that is clear and appealing. Although it is evident throughout that Conis made a thorough and scrupulous study of the Bible in preparing this book, this is no dry, academic treatise. It is very clear that Conis has a strong testimony of God and a true love of the scriptures.

This book would make a great addition to anyone’s scriptural library. I feel after reading this book, a little wiser, and eager to teach!

Although Isaiah is a focus of the book, its purpose isn’t to decode Isaiah chapter by chapter. Rather, it sets out to explain certain symbolism used in Isaiah and then apply that symbolism to other holy books, both in the Old and New Testaments.

James M. Conis has laid out this book in a format that is easy to follow and understand. He uses a mix of scriptures from the Old and New Testament alternating with his interpretation of what they say. He invites the reader to pray for wisdom and understanding to know if the insights are correct. His desire is to lead people closer to God and bring them a clear perspective of what the ancient prophets are saying about what is happening in our world today.

I highly recommend this book to any who wants to gain an understanding of the Bible. It is a well studied book with much consideration and effort put into making it easy to understand passage by passage. It is much like the scriptures themselves in that you will get out of The Latter Rain what you put into it – one man’s opinion or an insightful work that unlocks key points to understanding difficult prophetic passages of the Bible. It is a great companion/study guide that goes well with personal scripture study.
